Carnival: let's get the party started!

Millions of people, especially here in Europe, celebrate one of the biggest events in the city: Carnival. This holiday revolves around parades, costumes and the typical sweets. The problem, however, is that many of us can’t afford or don’t have the time to fly down to the cities for main events. So why don't organize a party? You can bring the Carnival mood to your living room or backyard with some creativity, and a few simple tricks.
·  1
Find out the date of the days of Carnival this year. A quick online search will let you know when to expect this year.
·  2
Plan a date for your party. Since Jeudi and Mardi Gras are always on a Thursday and Tuesday, you will probably want to host your party the weekend between.
·  3
Create your guest list and send out invitations
·  4
Mardi Gras revelers usually dress up, especially on Fat Tuesday. Make your Mardi Gras party a masquerade, and ask people to wear masks and costumes. You can pick a theme like a 17th century ball (the attire of choice for many of the Mardi Gras balls in New Orleans), favorite celebrity or even characters from comic books or movies. Or, you can simply ask that your guests come in their favorite costume without giving the party a specific theme.
·  5
Consider coordinating a costume contest for your guests.
·  6
Plan the food. Traditional food during Carnival includes many sweets like frappe and castagnole, but don't forget the finger foo, easy to eat and colorful.
·  7
There are many ways to decorate your home or event hall for the party. You can hang purple, red, yellow, green and gold streamers and beads along fences or the stairs. Add some faux chandelier and confetti all over. Have fun -- that’s what Canival is all about.

Carnival looks

When dressing up for Carnival the selection of a mask is an integral part of your costume. You can choose from a traditional jester Mardi Gras mask or something more ornate with feathers and sequins. Be sure and find a mask that will accentuate your face.
1
Decide what type of mask you want to wear. Are you looking for a traditional Carnival mask or something more edgy?
2
Do you want a half mask or full face mask? Some masks have integrated hats like the Carnival jester Masks.
3
There are a variety of mask styles available including Pirate themed masks or theatrical masks like from the Phantom of the Opera.

Tips
  • Carnival masks come in all shapes and colors. Make sure you select a mask that will be comfortable for you to wear.
  • Why not customize your look by adding a costume wig to your Mask costume.
  • Some masks are more ornate then others. These ornate masks are more delicate due to the materials which often include feathers, lace and sequins.
  • When wearing masks, be sure to be hyper-aware of your surroundings. Because of the way that masks are constructed, they limit your visibility somewhat.
